Adderall essays The Wonder Drug? In todays society we believe in a quick fix in anything that ails us society. Most Americans want to be healed quickly; we want a quick fix for all our aches and pains. There is a fairly new drug on the market that is called Adderoll. Adderall, is a stimulant for children who suffer from attention deficit disorder. It is used to help the person taking Adderall concentrate on the task on hand. However, these people who suffer from A.D.D. depend on Adderall, they need it to make them more controllable, and pay attention better in class.Like most new drugs they are very effective and have changed many poor students into successful students. However, in todays society children, young adults, and adults will take advantage of a good thing. Adderall is being abused in college and high school campuses across the United States. We have to do something to limit the misuse of Adderall that is being distributed through prescription use. What exactly is ADD? Approximately two million children in the United States have been diagnosed with ADD (BainL.J.).Bain, an expert in dealing with ADD says, Its estimated that 3-5% of the student population have ADD(20). Dr. Jaksa, an expert in ADD and Adderall states ADD is a diagnosable, treatable, biologically based disorder which we understand now much better than we did even 10 to 15 years ago (12). The primary systems include some combinations of inattentiveness or distractibility, impulsivity, for some people physical restlessness or hyperactive behavior (Bain). ADD is one of the most common childhood disorders. The symptoms that are seen with ADD are having lots of difficult paying attention, difficulty listening, difficulty with organization, gets distracted easy, cants sit still and the examples go on and on (Bain). How to Do Well on ACT Science for Non-Science People SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips ACT Science is really a misnomer.The test should be called the â€Å"reading with very confusing big words and tricky visuals† section.The reason ACT Science does not force you to memorize AP level Bio or complete IB Physics HL problems is that not everyone takes all of that math in high school. For ACT Science to be a fair standardized test for all high school students, the test asks you about basic science concepts in tricky or confusing ways. If you're one of those people who runs away from Math and Science Questions or considers themselves a writer or artistrather than a scientist or mathematician, do not fear! You can still get a 36 on ACT Science. The keys to success on ACT Science for non-science people are: Focusing only on what you need to know and practicing those skills, specifically: Scientific Method The 13 topics the ACT Science section expects you to know Reading visuals Avoiding the science terms Focusing on the reading aspect I'll delve into these three topics below. Focusing Only on What You Need to Know and Practicing Those Skills As I mentioned above, there is very, very little actual science you need to understand for ACT Science. However, you do need to have a basic understanding of these three categories. Scientific Method This is the basis for all of the passages in the ACT Science section.I will give you a basic summary of the scientific method, and you can read more about it in my Experimental Design question article.Scientists use the scientific method for all experiments. Scientists begin by observing something they want to study such as the freezing point of water. They notice water freezes somewhere between -5 and 5 degrees Celsius and want to know at exactly what temperature it will happen.Scientists then make a prediction or a hypothesis about what will happen. These scientists predict that the water will freeze at 1 degree Celsius. Scientists then conduct an experiment to test this hypothesis. To conduct an experiment, scientists use independent variables and dependent variable.The variables that the scientists actively change are the independent variables. The variables that they then observe are the dependent variables.In this case, the scientists put 5 g of water into freezers. Each freezer is set to a different measurement: -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 degrees Celsius. The freezer temperature is the independent variable.After 2 hours, the scientists check each freezer and note whether the water in the freezer is solid or liquid. Liquid or solid is the dependent variable. Scientists then draw a conclusion from the results.The scientists find that all water at or below 0 degrees Celsius froze while all water at or above 1 degree Celsius remained a liquid.So, their hypothesis was incorrect. Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius. ACT Science Tip: You do not need to memorize the steps of the scientific method to ace the ACT Science section.You just need to understand that Scientists are looking to see how a change in one thing affects the outcome. How a change in the independent variable affects the dependent variable.You need to be able to distinguish between these variables on the test.Check out our Experimental Design article for more practice on this topic. The 13 Topics ACT Science Expect You to Know There are 13 science topics that the ACT Science section expects you to know, ranging from basic cell biology to how gravity works.There will only be 4 questions per test on these topics (out of 40 questions), and the ACT will not give you information on these topics in the passage.Check out this previous knowledge question below: In order to answer this question, you need to use the information from the passage, that â€Å"A pre-MS star becomes an MS star when the star produces the majority of its energy by fusing hydrogen nuclei (protons) at its center to make helium nuclei.†On top of this information, you need to know that protons are positively charged and like charges repel each other.So, the answer is G. The bank was the result of the Treaty on European Union, which is also referred to as Treaty of Maastricht. That maybe explains the reason why some of the states were initially reluctant to adopt it. But the opposite has been achieved. The central bank, which is mandated to manage the euro for the nations that share this currency, has been able to control the rate of inflation and maintain it at a point below but close to two percent. The success story that is the euro and the European central bank is attributable to several factors. Some of them are prudent financial management and successful control of the inflation rate. Through this connection Both extracts feature sexual elements but at different intensities; they show elements of a flirtatious nature despite the circumstances in which the drama set up. Anne is conversing with a man who is responsible for the death of her husband and father in law in the war of the roses. Initially, she withstands his attempts to seduce her with her use of fiery language, â€Å"Out of my sight. Thou dost infect mine eyes†. The insulting language displays Anne’s initial disgust with the mere sight of Richard. The use of the word â€Å"infect† highlights the genuine hate she originally had for him and also produces an image of disease that is associated with him. However with the use poetic language and sensual imagery of â€Å"kissing†, Richard is able to manipulate her and convince her into not only forgiving him but accepting his ring as well. Richard manages to ameliorate the sense of her words by claiming that her eyes â€Å"have infected† his with love. This is shown similarly in Tennessee’s â€Å"A Streetcar Named Desire† with Stanley’s constant sexual attraction towards Blanche, his sister in law shown through the implications of language he uses and also with his actions towards the end of the drama. In Scene 2, where Stanley is interrogating Blanche about where she gets her â€Å"costume jewellery† ;â€Å"if I didn’t know you was my wifes sister I’d get ideas about you. Stanley observes the taboo about relations with his wifes sister; he reminds Blanche that she should not be flirting with him. Nevertheless, Stanley, later on, sexually assaults Blanche in Scene 10, â€Å"Come to think of it – maybe you wouldn’t be bad to – interfere with † As Stanley reaches for the right word, we are left to wonder whether this is the first time he has thought about assaulting her, whether he has always desired her but has channelled this into hostility. Also too in Pinter’s â€Å"The Homecoming†, although the suggestive language appears towards the end of the extract with Ruth’s surprisingly confident, â€Å"Have a sip. Go on. Have a sip from my glass.† The sudden enticing behaviour almost replicates the Stanley and his immediate sexual attraction to Blanche.

Walter Elias Disney Disney has become a household name in American society, but most people are not aware of Walt Disney's struggles before becoming one of the twentieth century's most prominent and successful animators and film directors. Walt Disney is best know for his characters Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, and Minnie Mouse, but his company can also be credited with achievements such as the first fully synchronized sound picture, "Steamboat Willie", the first full-color animation, "Flowers and Trees", and the first full-length animated movie, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois to Elias Disney and Flora Call. Walt was the youngest of four boys before his younger sister was born. At the age of five, he moved with his family away from the city to a farm near Marceline, Missouri. Walt loved his years on the farm, and his first drawings were of his beloved farm animals. Paper was scarce in the Disney household, so Walt's original drawings were done on toilet paper, one reason why his earliest works were never preserved. Around the time when Walt was eight, his mother gathered enough money to buy him a book for his drawings. Walt's father became ill, and during Elias's recovery, the Disney's three youngest children, Flora, and Elias moved to Kansas City. For more income, Elias forced Walt and his older brother and future partner Roy, to deliver newspapers. Even though there was an age difference of ten years between Walt and Roy, the brothers always remained very close. After Roy ran away, the youngest two children and the Disney parents moved again, back to Chicago, where Walt become the junior editor of his high school news paper "The Voice."... ...ied on December 15, 1966 from cancer, while Walt Disney World, in Florida, was under construction. If I Can Change the World

If I could change the world, money, the axis of evil, will not be the center of everything. It will just be a part of life, not the criterion of man's success in life. People will stop killing each other for money; people will stop defrauding others of their money. If I could change the world, money will stop its reign as king over man's soul. In Saudi Arabia, Women, dressed in black from head to toe with only their eyes sticking out, were moving about busily.If I could change the world, women will be given the same rights as men. Why do these men think that they are the gods of this land? Women in other countries have proved that they could emulate men; don't these women have the same potential? If I could change the world, these women will definitely be free to show off all their talents for this country's own benefit. â€Å"To Israel, please,† I replied, remembering the suicide attacks I've heard of so many times.We were greeted by a gunshot which miraculously passed throug h us but hit a man behind us who immediately fell to the ground, which was already wet with fresh blood. If I could change the world, there will be no wars. Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis Essay In 1936 when Zorn Neal Hurst first started to compose her award winning novel Their Eyes Were Watching God she deliberately fashioned the aforesaid work so that Its textual structure created anticipation amongst Its readers. She did this by including great adversity for the main character Jeanie to overcome. Jeanie became entangled in the oppressive powers of early 20th century marriage. That of which constrained her for the greater part of the novel.Going from man to man only intuiting the tyrannical cycle of being property. Throughout the course of the novel the reader wants Jeanie to find herself and break free. This creates anticipation within the reader. The reader was present during the beatings and the harassment Jeanie experienced. The only reason why the reader is in fact still reading is because of the anticipation he or she has building up inside of them. They only want the best for Jeanie and they want to be with her wh en she experiences it. All of the hardships and perils Jeanie experiences must lead up to something.It is through all the adversity hat Jeanie perseveres through that creates anticipation within the reader. Their Eyes Were Watching God was precisely articulated so that it naturally created a bit of hope Inside the reader. The reader wanted Jeanie to finally find love as well as find herself. This feeling amongst the reader first emerges when Jeanie is forced to marry Logan Clicks. â€Å"Jeanie and Logan got married in Nanny's parlor. † (Hurst 21)Jeanie just wants to have someone in her life, something to ward of the recurring loneliness she experiences. But even the reader knows that Logan Clicks is not the answer.This in itself creates anticipation. The reader at this point knows something will happen and may speculate what could occur. Essentially all that evolves out of this relationship Is Heartbreak for Jeanie. Her relationship with Logan soon dissolves despite the finan cial security he brought to the relationship. â€Å"Genie's first dream was dead, so she became a woman. † (Hurst 25) The reader knows that Genie's has partially given up on her dream of marriage but still wants her to find love. Fundamentally the whole relationship Itself with Logan Kills in turn creates anticipation amongst the reader.All of which plays a role In the reader's hope that Jeanie will find love and â€Å"all will be well In the kingdom. † In a second sequence of events Jeanie finds herself In a relationship with the ever so powerful mayor, Jody. This marriage is the foundation for more heartbreak but also more hope for the reader. It all began when Jody â€Å"slapped Jeanie until she had a ringing in her ears. † (Hurst 72) That is the turning point in their relationship. Jody had been an overbearing figure in the relationship by limiting Genie's social contact with the outside world, but never had he been oppressive In a pugnacious manner.The read er feels for Jeanie at this point. He or she more anticipation is created amongst the reader. The reader knows that something will happen further down the road. That the previous order of events foreshadows something greater. No situation Jeanie has experienced in the past has remained constant. It seems adversity is inevitable for Jeanie. This forces the reader to ponder the many possible outcomes of Jeanie and Jody relationship as well as Genie's quest for love itself. The aforesaid inevitable adversity that Jeanie experiences will once again come into play as Jeanie engages in a new relationship with Teacake.Jeanie awoke next morning by feeling Tea Cake almost kissing her breath away. Holding her and caressing her as if he feared she might escape his grasp and fly away. † (Hurst 107) The reader at this point is relaxed finally Jeanie has found a man that treats her like a woman. That respects her and seems to love her with all his heart. With all the different men that Jean ie has been with the quality that Teacake has that sets him apart from the other ones is compassion. The reader for the first time experiences one of the qualities of true love alongside of Jeanie. The novel might as well be over at his point all is well.But then again there is that everlasting feeling in the mind of the reader. Jeanie has never had everything go as planned. The reader anticipates something to go wrong. The past is ever present during Tea Cake's relationship with Jeanie when Jeanie â€Å"found out her 200 dollars was gone. † (Huston 118) Jeanie soon discovers that Teacake is also gone. This order of events creates immense anticipation in the mind of the reader. He or she asks him or herself questions like: â€Å"Did Teacake really steal her money and leave† or â€Å"will Jeanie Just finally give up on her ream of finding love. All of this anticipation and speculation on the reader's part was precisely planned by Zorn Neal Hurst to keep the reader inte rested in her novel. Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely essays Bridget Riley was an English painter, she painted abstract shapes that looked like optical illusions when you looked at them, and these were known as "Op Art. In the Early 1950s she went to Goldsmiths College and the Royal College of Art. She became famous by doing lots of black and white paintings in the 196Os that included paint lines of pure colors, which changed the brightness of the individual colors. During the 1970s, Riley's range of colors started to include both black and white. Despite her paintings being mainly abstract, Riley's works were intended to remind her of her own visual experience of the world Victor Vasarely studied in Budapest at the Podolini-Volkmann Academy, then at a school of graphic arts. Victors work though out the 1930s consisted of designing posters, he liked to use effects of graphic patterns and space illusions, which concentrated mainly on painting. His first exhibition contained many different patterns such as zebras and chessboards. In the late 1940s Victor focused on paint geometric abstraction that promoted Op Art in the 1950s with compositions based on different kinds of patterns. ...

Individualized Education Programs That Support Self Esteem Self-esteem has fallen from the pinnacle of academic and scientific practice.  There is not necessarily a direct link between self-esteem and academic success. Resilience is getting a great deal of attention because the culture of coddling children for fear of injuring their self-esteem often discourages them from risk-taking, which has been shown to be related to success in school and life. Still, children with disabilities do need some extra attention paid to activities that will build their ability to take those risks, whether we call that resilience or self-esteem.   Self Esteem and Writing Positive Goals for IEPs The IEP, or Individualized Education Program- the document that defines the students special education program- should attend to ways in which instruction is mediated and success is measured that will enhance a childs self-confidence and lead to further success.   Certainly, these activities need to reinforce the kind of academic behavior you want, while at the same time pairing the childs sense of self-worth to success in school activities. If you are writing an IEP to ensure that your students will be successful, you will want to make sure that your goals are based on the students past performance and that they are stated positively. Goals and statements must be relevant to the students needs. Start slowly, choosing only a couple of behaviors at a time to change. Be sure to involve the student, this enables him/her to take responsibility and be accountable for his/her own modifications. Be sure to provide some time to enable the student to track and or graph his/her successes. Accommodations to Develop and Enhance Self-Esteem: Academic expectations will be reduced to ensure success. Be very specific about the exact curricular expectations that will be omitted or modified. Recognize and reward quality performance.Student strengths will be highlighted by recording and sharing evidence of growth.Honest and appropriate feedback will occur on a regular basis.Opportunities for the student to demonstrate strengths will be maximized as often as is possible. This could include, oral presentation and opportunities for the child to share his responses as long as the child is ready and can be successful.The student will be encouraged to become involved in extracurricular activities that support his/her interests and strengths.The student will use a form of personal expression which will include teacher response/feedback through a journal, one to one, or computer entries. Goal-Writing Tips Write goals that can be measured, be specific as to the duration or the circumstance under which the goal will be implemented and use specific time slots when possible. Remember, once the IEP is written, it is imperative that the student is taught the goals and fully understands what the expectations are. Provide him/her with tracking devices, students need to be accountable for their own changes.

Breaking the chains of psychological slavery - Essay Example The author of the paper has presented his agreement or disagreement with the views presented by Akbar in the first three chapters of the book. The Psychological Legacy of Slavery In the first one of series of essays presented in Akbar’s book, Dr. Akbar defines the misery of blacks over the period of those 300 years, in which the black raced experienced brutality and humiliation in the hands of whites. According to the author, the blacks were forced into slavery which left behind deep psychological trauma in the mindset of black people and socially isolated them. Akbar states that, despite of the fact that world has acknowledged the brutality of slavery experienced all around the world, they still do not know or do not want to know the root cause of problems faced by black people, i.e. the slavery. The problems identified by Akbar pertaining to black peoples’ attitude, were directed towards their behavior at workplace, leading teams, feeling inferiority complexes and how the community divides them from white people. Akbar argues that the negative impact of slavery on black peoples’ attitude towards life can also be noticed in the way they form families and perceive discrimination on the basis of race and color. In my personal opinion, I would like to disagree with Akbar when he suggests that the effects of slave past can be noticed in the attitude towards profession. These days, blacks are dominating major positions in a number of key businesses in the world. On the other hand, blacks are provided with equal opportunities to excel in their profession and achieve their assigned targets. Another factor that has been identified with relation to Black’s attitude towards community division, I would like to agree with Akbar here. This is because still there are evidences where whites are discriminated on the basis of color and race. The recent example is of major sporting events like football leagues and hockey matches. But, due to prevalen ce of law and anti-racial regulations implemented by the government and by employers at workplace, Black people are now encouraged to report that to law enforcing organizations. Liberation from Mental Slavery The second chapter of the book discusses how to break the mental chains of the slavery and its adverse impact on the mind set-up of individuals. Based on Akbar’s idea of faith, the author argues that some of the time, people believe what is not actually practical. Similarly, blacks were sometimes were provided with false and rumored news about the whites and vice versa. I agree with the point raised by Dr. Akbar about faith. Faith is something that is meaningless and limitless. Faith reflects the level of trust an individual have for another individual. Based on faith, people make decisions that are critical to the situations in their lives. In this manner, to ensure successfully achieving objectives or to make something happen in your favor, one must have faith. Similar ly, if individuals’ belief that they are going to get freedom, they first must have faith on their belief, so as to ensure that full commitment and honesty is reflected in our efforts towards achieving freedom. Coming back to the denial of slave mentality of blacks, Akbar states that to make freedom possible, the blacks must have to believe that they are going to achieve freedom. This freedom gave their confidence level a boost which proved to be a vital weapon in their efforts to achieve freedom. Giving the example of Harriet Tubman’s efforts to free slaves, Tubman expresses her faith that she is going to free slave, which other wise would not have been possible in the absence of faith and
